Scholastics 2014 Silver Key
July 30th, 2013
The aged man was more ancient than the
cosmic-dust ingrained in his gnarled fingers
their tips were pressed against the lips
of whispering stars and winking flames of
burned out blame and cryptic pen named.
Clouds swirled over head
wisps of thread
tethering them to their crystal in skeletons
Notes fell from the ripened fog
like cumbersome rain drops
They splashed against the man's curved spine.
He was supine
henna eyes embracing the sky
twisted hands
scraped raw by sands of
time and washed out goodbyes.
His eyes watched the moon shatter and crack
as the pieces fell like sullen chips of Heaven.
The constellations fell from grace
broken shards of celestial faces.
