Scholastics 2014 Honorable Mention
March 6th, 2013
Once upon a dreary March day
as snow fell from the heavens in a glistening way
and the trees screamed with the onslaught of winter's departure
and spring's vicious attack
Winter hung on with claws of glistening ice
and tender kisses to the people of the urban decay
as the flakes of snow dropped down
down
down
down
onto steaming asphalt.
The winds ripped through the world
as trees bent down in submission
and the obsidian sky danced with the fuming clouds
and all of winter's fiery dominance
was swept away in frozen rivers.
Two lovers held hands
on the bank of the frozen creek
and their tears were sown onto their pink bleeding cheeks
as currents of time rushed by
leaving them in the past.
Brown eyes met with the trees and danced in the blistering wind
while blue shied away
and hid in the safety of the broken down bay.
Waves crashed out from the stony creek
and washed the land away into oblivion.
In the onslaught of the attack
the two lovers' hands,
hands that were sewn together with vines of love and dedication
were ripped apart
and the seems were turned into burning scars.
The scars were left to decay
until the flowers pushed up form the snow watered soil.
As the two entities traveled unto parts unknown to them before
their scars fell into the fertile soil
and their love and endless toil
were left to atrophy.
They were but particles of cosmic dust
in the never ending anarchy of the galaxy
but their hands were magnets
ever pulling together.
And once upon a cold October night,
their lips brushed against the wind once again
as winter began to creep back in
and spring faded into a blacked out memory
as summer was given over to envy.
